I have a red stringy (not slimy) red algae that comes out at night.
They are usually under the sand during the day and somewhat out at night

Not likely cyano based on the description. Can't help with ID otherwise. Good luck in your search.

Pictures are very blurry, but I suspect you may have spaghetti worms.

I don't really see algae, and agree with above the descriptions sounds like worms. I'm not familiar with any algae that shows only at night

that's not a common cyano growth form.

I don’t think they’re worms. I could be wrong.
I’ve pulled them out to inspect and they aren’t meaty

Spaghetti worms aren't meaty. They look like just a mass of red filaments (but the mass is one animal). The retracting during the day is the give away - cyano does not retract, and it's photosynthetic...

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
I’ll do some research!

You gain any ground on this? I'm curious if they're a pest or not... I had them in my old system and just noticed them in my new system. They don't seem to be much of a bother, but seems like they are able to proliferate quickly...

I haven’t tried anything yet. They don’t hurt anything so I left them alone
