Someone recommended NARC to me, so I just posted in that forum, but I am from Jasper so B'ham is closer.

Long story short, I have been keeping freshwater for a couple of years and had a 180 gallon african cichlid tank. I started a 100 gallon saltwater tank about 6 months ago and fell in love with it, sold all the african's and more everything over to the 180. Got some more sand and rock and it's been running for about 2 weeks now.

I went a little overboard. I bought a lifereef skimmer off ebay (should be here on wednesday). I'm running my old skimmer for now, but only have 5 fish so bioload is not that bad. Got an apex lite controller. It's a PITA if you're not IP/tech literate but it's amazing. Got two metal halides off craigslist. 40 gallon breeder sump with chaeto algae and an ATO from autotopoff.com. I have a few corals in there now, but I'm waiting on a BRS 2 part dosing kit to come along with Red sea calcium/alk/mag test kit.

I'd like to be able to learn some and check out other tanks. I don't know what to do to become a member, but I would love to join!

Sounds like you are off to a great start. Another freshwater convert...lol. Not sure how to answer your question about the club, as from my understanding its fairly nonexistent now. There is a big group of Reefers in Birmingham they just dont have regular organized meetings. Welcome to R2R and if you ever want to trade some frags feel free to hit me up. Sounds like you have an exciting new setup, 180 is a great size.

Yeah, I'm still new to it and don't want to rush into it. Have 4 green chromis, a yellow tang, 2 sebae clowns as of right now, among about 8 pieces of coral. Gonna try to get my water parems where they need to be, and give it some time before adding more corals or fish. Waiting on a lifereef skimmer to arrive. I don't have any frags to trade, but would love to find some people looking to sell them. I would rather deal with individuals than LFS. I hate saying that because I would like to support them, but would rather deal with people who actually care and not trying to make a profit, just make enough to support a hobby! haha

Well when you are ready for frags let me know I've got quite a selection of montis and birdsnest available at the moment. I also have some zoas and others and some acros. I've got some easy corals like frogspawn and candy canes that could use pruning too. PM me when you are ready for some coral.

that sounds good. I appreciate it. Still new to the names, but I'm sure google can help cure that. I'll be in touch with you and we'll go from there. I'm about 45 minutes from bham so not that far.

Welcome .. to barf ...lol

Man I live a few miles north of Gardendale on 65 so I split the difference between north AL and bham ..

A buddy and I attended a narc meeting around 2007 and then came back and started CARC (cetral AL reef club ) which we later changed the name to Barf.. which still cracks me up . Anyway several of the original members have left the hobby including me for a short time . The attendance of our meetings went from around 30 people to around 2 people so everyone just stopped getting together.

I just got back into it and I see there is several new people who seem to want to get things going which is fine with me just need to get something started.

Also anytime you can make a NARC meeting go for it it is always a great time with some awesome people
