Hey Everyone,

Just getting back into SW after a 10yr hiatus. Before I was single and couldn’t find enough time for the hobby. Now I’m married with a 4yo and 2month old, am I crazy!?!? Really hits home when you type it out lol. Anyways I have a better budget this time and hope to really take advantage of the info/newer equipment regarding ULM tanks. I think with the right setup I can enjoy it a lot more instead of being burdened by the constant manual top-offs I used to do, and water changes in a second floor apartment which were not ideal with carpet floors lol. Now in a ranch with concrete slab floors so it’s already looking better!

Do me a favor and take a minute to read my post in the beginners forum about upgrades for a ULM tank I’m trying to build.

Thanks!

Welcome to Reef2Reef! Post a link to your build. I’ll check it out!

Hi there! Welcome (back)!!! I'd say thats a fair deal you found! Me being the haggler that I am would probably still ask for 600 hundred flat lol but either way, I'd say thats a good start! Definately the smart route to go used!

If you are just going softies, I doubt you would need to dose but Ill let the experts handle that opinion. GFO and Carbon could probably wait as well till the tank gets going! Sounds like you got this! Good luck :D

Thanks for the advice! I’ve definitely thought about offering $500, but he knows I have to drive 3hrs to meet him so negotiating may be a moot point? On the dosing I was planning to do the All for Reef on one side then I was hoping there is a way to connect the RO/DI directly to the doser? So I can avoid an ATO reservoir that would have to be refilled.

Thats accually pretty smart with the rodi bit. Although im not sure how you would connect the ATK with the DOS. I'd need a min to think about that haha. With dosing, becuase softies tend to not take in much in terms a nutrience you may not need to dos All for reef. You could have it set up, but theres no point in dosing it if you already have the proper levels from your water changes. Dosing could in fact over do it, raising your calcium and alk which in turn could raise your pH too high and tick off your corals/fish!

Thank you, I’ll keep that in mind about the all for reef. Idk about the rodi/atk this part is all new to me. I’ve never used an ro/di system or ato in the past. Can’t wait to get my hands on it to see what I’m working with.

For sure! After think about it, Im not sure if there would be a way to program the apex to read the signals from the ATK and send them to the DOS but that sounds like a cool DIY project! The ATK has a pump it uses to pump water up and out from a resevouir and in the tank so depending on the how far your RO/DI setup is, you might just be able to get tubing long enough that it can be in your main tank. But im not sure how far the pump will be able to push out that water. Do some recon on the forum to see if something like that has been done! Also ask the guys in the Controller forum! Dont have too much experiance with that forum but I know SuncrestReef was really helpful when I was having trouble with my apex and figuring out programing. Also, not sure what your apex experiance is, but we have a huge article that breaks it all down in the "articles" tab on top the web page.
