Hey members help me with a contest!!

Hey gang I was trying to think about a good contest that we can have that will dive members to the site. I was thinking about a referral type contest and the top referrers get good prizes.

What do you think? Have other ideas?

I am think prizes like Vortechs, skimmers, etc..

I don't have a good idea yet but I generally don't like the referral ones. You'll get someone that is involved in other forums or online community to sign all their friends up so they can win. The problem being that none of them are into reefing and never come back to the site.

I think the goal is to not only get new people but knowledgeable people that can help answer questions and become a knowledge source. NCRA did the huge purple hornet giveaway and everyone showed up, did their duty and left. They got some members out of it but people showed up for a freebie without adding a lot of value.

Idea 1: People create a thread about their tank. It can be a build thread or general this is my tank thread. It should include everything about the lighting, filtration, plumbing, coral, fish, everything...

Idea 2: People create knowledge threads. It could be on anything from a specific skimmer, fish, coral or etc. It could also be more general topics on lighting, propagation, photography, filmography, etc..

How about the contest is whoever comes up with a thread that gives the most back to the reefing community. My submission would be what I started on my local clubs site

A Show event page !! .
i know several vendors have to look at different places to find out where the shows are .
3 people told me they come to my site just to find out event date and location.
it would be nice to have it listed all in one page. Most of the time we see it posted all over by different clubs.
I am sure that would be great for all hobbyists who want to find out if there are shows in their area as well.

A page that lists all LFS and online stores of every state !

A page that lists all Saltwater Forums on the net !!

A " How " page ( this page will include several thread of how to )

i guess list several sources of info on this site?
just trying to throw out some idea!

Maybe a Q and A type forum. Where if you are having trouble with your tank, corals, fish or equipment. People would try to help you. Many times I found out about forums while searching for a solution to a problem. Thats how I found out about R2R. This would be more specific than the general forums. Maybe setup a criteria that you must post all your water parameters in order to get help with water chemistry, etc.

hey rev........ how about a contest that would really benefit the newbies........ we have all kind of contests for photo's or the best looking tanks...but what if your a newbie and cant afford a $700 or $800 camera or cant afford to put 5 or $6000.00 into your tank or even have the know how to do so ? i think we should have some kind of contest that you dont have to be a professional or a supplier or even know hundreds of people on the site to even have a chance to win........it just seems that the more popular you are the better your chances.....myself i am not really known on here but i do put thousands of dollars into my tank......if the prizes are gonna be like Vortech's or something maybe we should give the newbies better chances at them....cause i always hear about people winning new vortech's or something and dont need them and end up trying to sell them......i really dont have any idea's of a contest but i just think the adverage reefer should have the upperhand.......i would even exclude myself just to see someone win the prize so they can really see how todays technology can make thier reeftanks even more beautiful......so it might sound like i am rambling but i just hate to see people win stuff that they dont need...just saying it should be something even the newbies arent scared to enter and have a good chance of winning....just my 2-cents
