Hey guys,

My wife's cousin just got a biocube 14 for his 2 year old daugher... he has a ball of green hair algae in it the size of the tank. Lol

The LFS told him to just keep it topped off. He was using tap water to do this... yikes! So I explained he needed to get some Rodi to use for top offs.

Anyways my question is what are you guys doing on the filtration side with these things? Right now it has the slip in filter in the first chamber, then bio balls followed by a sponge before the return pump...

He's not trying to grow any crazy corals, he just has some Nemo's and GSP that he thought was an anemone for the clowns. Lol

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

In my nano cube, I have floss in the top, chemi-pure blue in the middle, and chaeto in the bottom.

Yeah I was thinking of taking the bio balls out and throwing a purigen or something in there. I don't think Chaeto would work, there is no light back there

i have a 10gal IM...im using: a filter sock, chemi-pure nano blue, purigen going on a little over a year now. Im in the process of doing a DIY nano skimmer for too...

I bought the magnetic JBJ refugium light for the chaeto, but the back of my cube is clear. I don't know if that is the case with other sizes/brands.

Thanks for the info guys, I knew you weren't keeping bio balls, wanted to see what you were all running instead. This helps. Thanks.

I don't think he'll be doing a skimmer. I don't live close enough to take care of it. Lol. He does live 5 minutes from a good LFS in Huntington Beach, weekly water changes will be his routine

A weekly water change with that tiny water volume should be plenty. Mainly, just make sure he knows to temperature match what he adds since it can cause a pretty big swing otherwise.
