Hey there! I'm new to R2R

Hello everyone!

I'm Ross. I grew up close to the Georgia Aquarium and always wanted a saltwater tank but never got to starting one. My buddy gave me a Mr. Aqua 12gal low-iron tank for my birthday just a couple of weeks ago. He suggested I start with freshwater before diving into the reefing world.

I'm learning about marine tanks by helping my buddy with his tank maintenance.

My goal is to start my own reef tank within two months.
I want to learn as much as I can so I don't kill any creature when I start.

Those are cool little tanks. If you do not have an automated top off unit yet, it really is a must have on a 12 gallon.

I've also started making a list of items for my saltwater tank (50gal or smaller).

How do you like your JBJ RL 45?
Is one Hydra 52 good enough? would you get it again if you were to start a 2nd tank?

I am biased I like the JBJ RL series, I have had a lot of JBJ's over the years.
Hydra is a good light, on a JBJ 45 it's perfect for LPS, Soft corals and clams. For an Sps dominated I am inclined to think 2 fixtures would be ideal, or one fixture supplemented with a T5HO retro kit (which is what I am going to do).
A Hydra Prime would work well with a 12 gallon tank.

My 12gal is freshwater atm. The Hydra would be for the near future 45gal reef.
