Welcome to R2R and back to the salty world William. If you can afford it go for a 40 gallon. I’m sure you will soon want a bigger tank for more choices. Lots of knowledgeable and helpful people here who will support and advise you when needed.

A little about myself.. So I'm a real novice here. Although in the past I've had 2 aquariums. The first was saltwater that ended with a burst tank. The second was freshwater I ultimately lost interest and sold due to needing money. Last night my daughter of 10 and I went to a local fish store to get ideas. She has decided she wants to do snails and crabs. I have tons of questions. Ill only ask 3 for now.. So any ideas and help will be appreciated.
1. Will a 20g suffice for snails and crabs with a few small fish work?
2. What types of snails, crabs and fish will work well together?
3. What equipment will I need as far as filtration, substrate and rock or decor?

Thanks in advance

Welcome! Glad you joined - this is such a great family hobby!

Have you considered starting your build thread? I wish I would have started earlier when still in planning stages like you and your daughter. I found its a great place to document my tank's evolution for myself. I started tank first then joined, so I'm still finding myself going back collecting pictures & updating historically as well as current state. Once you create your first post in your thread and link it to your account, they will give you build badge (look left, under my ID)

This is a good reference book type online article I still review:
