Hi. My name is Jenny, and I am based near Adelaide in Australia. I have had a number of freshwater aquariums, but past 10mths after seeing the marine livestock in my LFS the seed was planted was started for my own. I have a fascination for marine reef life, but due the ever present fear that there is a shark out there with my name on it, I will likely not make it up nth to see the Great Barrier for myself, instead to resorting to having it in my living room.
I have set up a 7mth plan in order to develop the patience required for this hobby, the background knowledge, a stocking plan to follow and to stock pile the finances so if things go haywire in first few mths, i dont lack the money to resolve the problem, or god forbid restock.
I sadly starting small with a 100gal which includes the sump. The sump I am planning to use as a refugium to help manage nutrients within tank and provide impt food sources for number of the stock.
I want reef, my partner wants fish so trying at happy medium. Trying to aim at hardier fish with less disease concern rather than my hopes in >12mths of clam, blue tuxedo urchin, and some hard lps coral.
My stocking idea ATM are:
Dwarf lion
Poss medium sized lion
Sailfin tang
Foxface rabbitfish
Toby- black saddle (?)
Snowflake eel (?)
Blue-chin trigger(?)

Clowns bcos of need for anemone (apparently not gd for corals) and the lions not an option so daughters sad
Anyhoo feel free to pick my stocking idea apart; that is predom the reason for this 7mth preparation period :-)
Thanks all

Jenny I love your game plan to start this hobby off good.
You'll find all the info here on R2R to do, all you need to do is ask.
Of course when your ready start a build thread and share lots of pics.

G'day, Jenny!

Welcome to R2R and the wonderful world of saltwater!

I've heard not-so-good things about triggers and lions together - I'd think that the lion's flowing finnage might be tempting to taste. Blue-jaws are probably the mellowest of triggers though, from what I've read - and they're lovely, to boot!

Bruce hi. Thanks for your reply
Yes its a combination I am not convinced of. In one of Scott Michaels texts he suggests as a Predator combo in a 100gal reef tanm, but on furthering my reading re. subject and following the predator fish conversations it is becoming less of such a favourable idea. There are so many varying opinions on subject, and knowing my luck I would end up with a real bossy b****h of a trigger meaning those fins would be in her sights.
Am figuring may have to be one or the other o_O
Thank you
