I added bacteria that the store gave me and cycled for a few hoursDid you happen to add some Dr. Tims or Microbacter 7 to that tank when you set it up?
Welcome to Reef2Reef!
I have 1 live rock in there so far. I do plan on building it up once the tank establishes moreWelcome.
Couple things to consider with your little tank there. First off, do you have live rock in it? It looks quite bare. The one piece of rock and lots of sand. Do you plan on having live rock, coral and inverts, or just the fish?
Also, the clowns will outgrow a 5g within about 1.5 years. Just remember you will need a larger tank or need to re-home them. There are some great other little guys that can live in there just fine though.
I’ve been watching my levels and did read you needed to add distilled or RO? water to it to level off the salinity. I did my first water change yesterday of 20% and vacuumed the sand. I’m used to freshwater so I have a bit of an idea but still researching the maintenance of saltwater. And I definitely want more rock in thereWelcome to the Hobby and to Reef2reef.com; best site on the web hands down.
I would recommend you get at least two more pieces of liveRock in there.
With a small tank like that, if you do a one gallon water change per week, you should be fine. Figure out how much water evaporates and make sure to top it off with fresh water so that your salinity level remains at 1.026. Don't feed your fish too much, maybe just 3 or 4 times a week. Most importantly, take it slow and you'll be successful.
Welcome to the beginning of the end... of your expendable income!
