Hi Everyone!

Hi Emily, welcome to Reef2Reef!

My name is Emily and I currently work at Salty Underground. This account is not an official company account I just happen to work there and I'm interested in the discussions going on here and getting into the social side of the hobby a little bit more. That being said, feel free to ask me questions about Salty and I'll answer them to the best of my ability. My main focus is aquaculturing live foods and the berghia nudibranchs. I don't have an "actual" tank at home but I do have a 5 gallon that I keep brine shrimp, snails, and a few astrea stars in. I've only been working at Salty Underground for about six months and I have no experience with aquarium keeping before that so I'm definitely still a beginner. I'm excited to explore this forum and learn everything I can from everyone here!

Hi Emily. I'm Lisa. Welcome! Glad you joined. I'm looking into culturing Berghia's myself. In our local DFW club someone is doing really well with them, and he's been sharing his knowledge with me. Before I start, I'm trying to decide if I want to do this short term to get me thru this patch of aiptasia in my tank or if I want to do it long term to help out other local hobbyists. He's shared it takes about 200 aiptasia to raise baby to adult, and its about 6 week process. They don't seem too temperature sensitive, but aiptasia grow best about 78-80 degrees.

Have you considered starting your build thread? I found its a great place to document my tank's evolution for myself. I started tank first then joined, so I'm still finding myself going back collecting pictures & updating historically as well as current state. Once you create your first post in your thread and link it to your account, they will give you build badge (look left, under my ID). Its great to put your plans and dreams. Its never too early!

This might help you find people local to you:

This is a good reference book type online article I still review:

Every time i look at salty underground for nudi's. i only see the 1/4" ones. Everything else is always out of stock. I'd like to get a mix of sizes.

Why not culture your own? Takes 200 aiptasia to go from baby to full grown in about 2 months or little less. I just bought a DeskMate pico tank... right now I'm first focused on just getting myself a LOT of aiptasia ... and then over time they'll go from invisible (baby Berghia) on up... At least... that is my hope... 1/4" is actually pretty good size given what's involved in getting them from invisible to 1/4" size... I'm sure you aren't seeing a lot just because getting eggs to hatch into more is just one part of the challenge in breeding them... I've started a build thread, but I'm barely past starting line on this little project.
