Made the switch from a freshwater 160g w foot long oscars, bred from 1 inch, to a 90g saltwater about a year ago. Love when you get a deal on Craigslist. Having never attempted a saltwater before I Did online research on the hobby till my eyes popped. I went with a four inch sand bed that is a mix of playground sand from Lowes(brought my vinegar w me and watched it bubble up in amazement) and white Argonite I bought on eBay which came w a ton of little crawlers that got eaten up eventually. Have about 125lbs of live rock. Replaced the fluorescents it came with an Odyssea T5 set up,$100 on eBay 2white 2blue n led nite lights. It's been fun and costly like most hobbies. Learned from mistakes. 1st additions werr some Damsels, hearty cheap fish that are still in tank a year later. More to come

Welcome to R2R!! Looks like you are off to a great start!! :)

Welcome to reef2reef! Our 55 g used to have itty bitty baby oscars.. but they got moved to the 125g when we made the 55 our saltwater tank :) they got really big in the 125 and one of our friends wanted them for a new tank he got (really nicely colored oscars) so they are big, fat and happily swimming around in his daughters playroom! We miss them a lot but now our giant danios are breeding like crazy with all the room! What do you have with your oscars? do you plan to breed them?
I miss ours very much but I kinda love our saltwater tank a little more in a different way :) there is a freshwater page here, too! Can't wait for pics!

My Oscar tank is long gone. There were 2 red ones and an Albino. Red ones would lay eggs every month. Female would stay w them always and male would scare off everyone else. Green terror, red tail cat, Dempsey and a knife fish. Tank was a foot n half high 5ft long and 2 1/2 ft deep custom made w 1/2 inch glass. Was moving and had to let it go. Think I got pics on FB ill take a look
