Hello! My name is Leslie, from Brownsdale Minnesota...don't feel bad if you have no idea where that is, people in Minnesota don't even know! I am a month into having my 120 gal reef tank set up and running, cycle seems to have gone well. I have just a couple fish (Lawn mower blenny, 2 Blacker Ice Clowns, and a Midas Blenny that is already in solitary confinement for tearing up my clowns), no corals yet...too scared! I have no one close by to turn to for advice - it is a 2 hour drive just to a good "LFS", I researched for almost a year before getting started so I feel I know just enough to get into trouble! Hence, I am here to hopefully make some friends in the hobby...I have noticed people's eye glaze over when I talk too much fish tank! Kind of like when I got my panther chameleons, same look. :D Nice to meet you all!

Leslie

Welcome Leslie

I am new to the hobby myself... setup a 75 gallon tank 3 months ago... after 2 months of research :)

I was scared of corals too.. but best advice given to me was start with just 1 or 2 cheap/easy corals...to see how they do.... I started with a frag of green nepthea and a simple mushroom...

Welcome to R2R! Dont be scared of corals... if you have the lights, flow, filtration and a solid water change schedule.... then I dont see why you wouldn't be able to try out a mushroom or zoa frag. See how it goes. You'll be addicted in a week. ;)

No way! I am originally from Austin! I have cousins in Brownsdale. Don't judge me by where I am from though. It has been a long time. :)

Welcome. I used to go to a store up on the south side of St. Paul. Cannot remember the name of it. This was over 22 years ago though. Maybe it is still there. It was a huge store with fresh and salt and the best around at the time. Lots has changed I am sure.

You will enjoy the tank on those long cold nights and days. Gotta say, don't miss that much. :)

I do seem to have all the bases covered, much to my hubby's dismay, I have 2 Radions, a Gyre and a MP40 with battery back up, a Trigger sump, Reef Octopus skimmer, Tunze Osmolator, oh and the snazzy Vortech return pump..."cheap" and easy sounds GREAT, where does one find that in this hobby?!;) lol It is very overwhelming...it took me 2 hours just to pick out my first fish!

Is the rollerskating rink still around? I went there in Junior High.

Oh, the dive into corals is not bad, but gets very addicting, fast. :)

I won't judge...we lived in Austin for 4 years but bailed (it is getting bad in town) for the quiet country life! lol I have gone to Saltwater Empire, and there is a place called Wet World that sounds like it has been around awhile. I was ready for winter to sit and play with my tank but it has been glorius so far! I am sure Jan-Feb will be a bear!

Welcome! From Janesville MN myself. And if your looking for the best LFS you have to go see the folks at New Wave Aquaria by far the best store in MN I drive almost 2 hours to get there and always leave with a ton of goodies! I have a 120 Fatboy tank as well :)

Welcome! I'm in the state that is west of you! South Dakota! If you are ever in south Dakota, go to sioux falls aquatics. Really great fish store. It's a local store and he has amazing corals and fish.

I will definitely have to check that place out! I have heard that name before, so that is a start, thanks for the info!

I better get used to driving! The LFS that is in Rochester is a joke. It just makes me sad to go in there...gotta put gas money in the tank budget! :)
