Hi from Oklahoma!

Welcome! Make sure you post some pics!

Welcome to R2R! If you start to add soft corals like Acans, Blastomussa or Zoas to name a few, the peppermint could cause hard to them so be mindful when/if adding. 55 gallon's a great starter size. Any plans to add a nem?

My peppermint shrimp ate some of my corals. I took them back to the fish store (seriously considered cooking them as punishment.) The corals are recovering now, but it will be a while before they get back to where they were. In my case, I think they were just starving. I didn't have any fish, and wasn't feeding them everyday. The LFS said one of them had eggs and apparently, they don't feed the often then either. If I try them again, I will start them with a few small feedings a day so they learn that they will be fed and hopefully won't prey on the corals.

I seriously considered turning mine into popcorn shrimp too. I lost so many Acan's and blasto's. Honestly wish the LFS's would give a little more warning to all. Seems most of us have to learn the hard way. They do a great job at making you think they cured your Aptasia problem too lol.

The LFS owner was totally shocked. He said he had never heard of them eating coral. Although, I'm sure most people put them in with fish, so they're getting fed regularly.

Just getting started with my first saltwater tank. 55 gallon with 10 galllon sump (stand wouldn't allow a bigger size). Just added my first two live critters ( tomato clown and peppermint shrimp). Can't wait to turn this into a reef tank.

Hello and welcome.

Welcome from a fellow Okie! Have you been to Prestige Worldwide Corals yet, NW 23rd and Council?
Yes, I went there for the first time this past weekend. I had been working with another LFS that also does ponds and they are actually getting rid of all their saltwater dept. and I needed to find a new place.

Nice size starter tank. Post pic as you progress and we will help you along the way !
