I have a red sea reefer 350 with the cabinet in white and i want to make a canopy that matches it. But i have noooo clue on where i can find the matching panels or some other material that matches it. Any one have any ideas? Thanks very much

The cabinet is made of laminated plywood. Find a place that sells plastic laminate, borrow some color chains for several manufacturers and match it. Home Depot, Lowe’s, a laminate wholesaler, a commercial cabinet shop all should have sample chains. Maybe Red Sea can tell you the brand. One warning though, there are at least 20 to 30 different whites offered.

The panels are just an epoxy paint, The outer layer of the ply is a MDF or hardwood, so it gets a super smooth finish. You can build the canopy out of 1/2” MDF, then take it to a Cabinet paint shop and have them put a waterproof paint on it to match the Red Sea Cabinet.

Give me the dimensions, I'll make you one.

Very tempting I'm an electrician and only 22 so ive never built things out of wood before. I do have experience working with tools all i wanted to know was if anyone knew if i could buy the exact panels so i could cut and make my own canopy. Red sea customer service is are useless have a skimmer which was brand new a less than two months the pump went and they are completely refusing to repair or send me a new one... there is no damage to the pump what so ever it just doesnt work.

I started woodworking and furniture making when I was 27 because I wanted to build a decent looking aquarium stand. What you just described is all you need to get started, experience working with tools and a touch of desire.

MDF (medium density fiber board) is incredibly cheap, like $25-30 for a full 4’ x 8’ sheet of 3/4”. If you totally mess up your attempt to make a decent looking hood, you’re only out $25 - and you’ll have gained some experience.

If you want to give it a shot, post some questions in the DIY section.
