in about 3 weeks hope to have my aqua 400 tank with ,sump portion skimmer,pump, and heaters
lights are t5 length 52" inches width 21 inches hight 29 inches how much live rock will i need please

The old rule was 1 pound per gallon, but not so sure I even follow that anymore.

I would go with dry rock and create your aquascape and see what you like. You can always add more rock into the sump area.

For my tank, I started with about 3/4 of the old rule and then added a few pieces as needed to fill in. Everyone is different though.

Yes not all rock is created equal as mentioned some would require more and some less. The pound per gallon rule no longer applies in some cases. Most people still seem to run that amount but thats not to say its overkill or underkill even. Depending on type of rock and other nutrient export methods and stock list

The amount of live rock you need also depends on the style of aquascape that you would like, so don't be too worried about sticking to an absolute minimum amount of LR. If you feel like you haven't got enough in the display, you can always put rubble bits and small pieces of LR in your sump and that will boost the surface area for your beneficial bacteria to grow on.
