Hi iam Theresa

Welcome to Reef2Reef!!! I'm not sure about the clam, but others will likely chime in soon.

Welcome aboard!
I found some threads about clams on this forum but not sure how to link them.

You should be able to copy and paste the URL of the thread into the text box.

Do you know the type of clam?

Tank age and params might help as well.

Iam new at salt water and just start got a clam that was already on a live rock and tonight it opened and waves my hand and didn't close do you think it died
Hi Theresa and Welcome!

Glad you joined. Watch your clam for signs of life - it may be fine. Clams aren't active like other things which may be in saltwater aquariums. Some clams can be 'twitchy' and react to movement and light change, but like post #5 above when a blenny sits on clam, their clam has no reaction... Defer to others. Sending positive thoughts your way

can you post a pic under white light? It may be a Bi-valve which comes often on rock and actually a member of scallop family.
