Hi everyone,

Looking for some help regarding my Nitrates. Nitrate sitting at 22.8 and rising daily with phosphate sitting at 0.01 steady. All Tank par. are normal regarding Kh, Mg, Cal. The tank is a 55gal waterbox 60.2. Protein skimmer in the sump with no other carbon dosing present except for a carbon bag right after the filter sock. Socks are getting changed daily now and cut down on feeding as well. Looking for some help to get the nitrates back into an acceptable range and then might want to start using TM- Np bacto balance? Any help?

You need to dose P back to the system. You could use a product like Brightwell NeoPhos or make your own DIY solution. If you’re P is that low, I’d remove the filter socks first.

If you dose natural bacteria coupled with mild organic carbon it will bring the N down as long as you’re not over feeding. Remember that we’re the only ones adding N&P to the system. That may come from feeds, coral food, added fish, etc.
