I'm Mike, a mid-40s software developer, and I've been reefing for about 15 years. I've kept mostly SPS and LPS corals, a few fish, and a variety of inverts. My current tank is a 60 gallon cube, which replaced my original 75 gallon. It has some issues ranging from unwanted inhabitants to mechanical problems - and it's loud. I've learned a lot over the years, and have made a lot of mistakes. I have teenage offspring who have been taking an active role in tank care and maintenance, and have even scolded me for not having prevented some of the current issues the tank has. Anxiety is on the rise around here, and I know I've always found reefing therapeutic - though sometimes it feels like we're fighting an uphill battle with the current tank. Long story short, we are going to start a new tank - taking things slowly, and hopefully doing things right. I know some will disagree with this approach, but after thinking about it and discussing it for the past six months, we feel it's the right path for us. Thought it made sense to start fresh on a new reefing forum as well. Looking forward to learning more with all of you :)

lots of fun/info/fun/help/fun....

what are you thinking of? starting fresh is a valid decision. what do you think caused your anxiety and what are your plans for avoiding it this time? feel free to expound on your ideas. and welcome to R2R!

Thanks all for the welcome messages!

The anxiety isn't tank related - just a thing that runs in the family, and is exacerbated by...that stuff going on in the world. Reefing has been therapeutic for me, and I think it will be good for my teenage offspring to have a new project to devote some time and attention to - and hopefully find some moments of zen ;Happy.

The mistakes I've made in the past mostly revolve around cutting corners and trying to move too quickly. These are the main things we are going to do differently this time. Probably the most important thing, if I had to pick one, will be EVERYTHING gets quarantined.

We'd like to have this new tank in the main living area of the house. The noise of the current tank is a pain point for my wife, and our house is fairly small. I'm thinking something small, maybe 50-ish gallons. As far as livestock, we really love Swimmy (our current 12-year-old percula clown). We haven't decided if we'll try to convince her to move, or start with a new pair. Beyond the clown(s), an anemone, a cleaner shrimp, and a clean-up crew, we've agreed only that we will take things SLOW, and unanimous consent will be required.
