So one of the pumps that was doing the automatic water change failed and salinity dropped in my mostly sps tank. When I found some corals bleaching I tested the parameters and the salinity was at 1.017. I did a quick water change and now it is 1.022. Alk and calc also went up. 13 & 450 respectively. I want to do another water change to bring up salinity to 1.026. i am concerned this will increase the alk and calc further. What should I do?

dont raise you salinity too fast if the tank was run-in at 1.017 for a while. I just had a similar issue after a bad water change. Added salt that raised my alkalinity 0.5 and calcium to high 400. now at 1.024ish. 13 starts to be dangerous territory. I would let it deplete to below 12 before raising salinity or do a large water change.

You could get a different salt that does not have such a high alk. Red Sea blue bucket or similar that mixes to 7 or 8.
But as post by @proxy001 above states, do it slowly. Fast changes are never good when things changed slowly to a bad number And what’s left is already used to it.

Thanks. I use Red Sea Coral Pro which is high in Alk. Guess that was part of the problem. I will leave it alone for a while and see if it improves.

Thanks
