High Alkalinity problem

time is the best method, your tank will absorb it naturally over time, depending on how stocked it is. what is very high?

Water change with lower alk salt or let it fall on it's own. How high is it and how did it get that high?

What do you consider very high and how are you testing? I have found that Alk kits vary brand to brand with Elos reading lower than Salifert. I'm not sure how accurate any of our test kits truely are. Keeping your Alk steady is the key. One thing you don't want is a suden shift in Alk, so if you want to lower Alk I would say stop dosing if you are in fact dosing. Monitor Alk daily until your in the range you want to stay at, then resume dosing. You will have to monitor your dosing routine for a while to be sure your Alk stays where you want it, adjusting your dosing accordingly.

unless it's very high, 13dkh and above, i'd just let it fall naturally, removing the excess alk so suddenly can also shock the system.

your allright in my opinion just as long as it is not prolonged. water changes with any salt will drop it down since no salt that I know of has a DKH above 9. could be wrong though there is alot of salt out there.

How high is it and how did it get that high?
I think this is the most important question to look at first. As long as it was a slow change that raised the alk you shouldn't be in immediate danger. Just lower it slowly and watch it more closely.
