High aluminum and resolving it

Hi guys, I have a mixed reef and it’s running pretty well. I’ve done some icp. Test and I have high aluminum in my tank. I can’t find the source unfortunately.

I don’t do water changes. And wonder how other hobbyists who got aluminum in there tanks removed it.. My mushroom willow isn’t liking it as it’s normal for softy’s when facing high aluminum. Others aren’t suffering “ yet “ much thanks in advance .

Do you have any white ceramic media or white phosphate removal media?

I don't think 61 is high. My tanks have routinely run over 100 with zero issues. Then again, mine came from ceramic media and is aluminum oxide in the tank and inert.

If you want to lower aluminum, you will have to look at water changes or remove any media that is leaching it and keep testing to see if it goes down on its own. Water changes are easier, quicker, and more beneficial than just waiting it out

I don’t have any ceramic. I did start with dead rock but it isn’t ceramic. I checked my pumps as best as I could. Can’t find anything strange unfortunately. It’s obvious it’s in the tank so even water changes will lower it , but it will come back eventually.. I am wondering if po4 remover will work on aluminum. Or perhaps some other stuff other hobbyist have used

Some phosphate removal media are aluminum based, like PhosBond, so they can raise aluminum level.
Not sure what are manufactured dry rock made of, but it could be potentially a source of aluminum too.

I too would not be sure that 61 ug/l aluminum is enough to be a problem.
