Hey gang! I’ve been struggling with high CA in my 90gal and I can’t figure out why. I typically try to keep it around 415-425. I did 20 gal tank change Sat. I tested on Sunday. My ALK number was a little low for my liking, 7.9 and my CA was 485(to high for me). I added 20 ml of ALK buffer. I use esv b-ionic. I used this since I’ve had the tank, 15months old. I tested again this evening and my alk moved to 8.2(I’m happy with) but my CA increase as well to 500. I know it is not supposed to do this. I can’t explain why it did but this isn’t the first time it’s happened to me. I don’t dose CA in this tank so I can’t explain why my numbers are high. I have an ro/DI system and I use Instant Ocean Reef crystals salt. My salinity is 1.026. I have an unhappy Sinularia and I’m assuming it’s due to the high CA. Any help is appreciated.

The high cal isn’t making the softie unhappy I belive.

It sounds just like test error.
You didn’t add or change, it shouldn’t go up.

Thanks @saltyfilmfolks! Glad to hear the high CA is mostly likely not making my softie unhappy, makes sense. Regarding the test kits. I’ve tried to rule this out. I have purchased multiple kits and this is my newest purchase. The same kit I used tonight I’ve used on my 45gal and those numbers are good.
