High concentration of Aluminium!

ICP test shows high concentration of Aluminium (0.0413 ppm) in my reef tank water. Very toxic for corals.

What can be the source (not found in my DI water)?

Do you think Activated Carbon can absorb it or should I change all the water?

I am not sure the levels posted would be detrimental and may even be the result of testing error.

I do see negative effects. Most corals are dying. Sps and Lps. A kind of STN, whitening tips.
That's why I sent water to ICP test because all the rest is fine.

Yes I use it... I read about Aluminium leakage but not that high levels. Anyway I removed it yesterday.

Carbon can what are your other tank parameters? And are they stable there day to day?

Ime the big ones with lps are alkalinity and salinity.

Has light changed? (Could just be from gac, after long period of no gac and increased penetration from light)

Flow changed?

Are you running high alkalinity and low nutrients?

My other measurements are good. 380 Calcium, 8 Alkalinity, Mag 1280(not high but good). Very stable with 0.08 Phosphate, 0.2 Nitrate. Orphek led lights 55% high for easy acclimation. Any SPS coral I bring, won't survive a month, and i grow corals for more than 20 years.

I can't think about another reason for this STN. Aluminium is very high for corals.

Do Poly Pads remove Aluminum, if so I would give them a try.
