High dose Triton Core7 reagents

Hi all.

My dKH has been around 6.7 for the last few weeks and I’ve been increasing all my core 7 reagents and it hasn’t increased.

I’m now dosing 10ml x 6 times a day. All other parameters are within normal range, my Ca is 400 my Mg is 1350 but my dKH won’t increase.

Is this normal?

How big and how old is the tank?

600L and it’s 1 year old.

I usually have a GHL KH Director on it and that takes care of the dKH. Before it was set to 2ml x 6 times a day. But my KH Director has a leak.

I am now manually testing with a salifert kit but it’s needing a lot of reagents.

I’m no expert and on week three of core7 myself. I’m only using 14ml a day in my 150 gallons. I did notice my calcium and magnesium were good but my ALK was a little low so I added just a little KH buffer that I had and ALK jumped more than what I thought it should have. 60ml a day sounds like a lot to me.

How do the corals look? I could be a tester problem?

Corals look great to be fair.

I think it’s maybe a good sign they are growing but wow, they are using a lot!

Hey Joe, here we have seen cases os high KH consumption associated with huge bacteria surface area. E.g. having tons of bioblocks, siporax, matrix, etc. Do you have any of those medias? Regards, Edo

O X to help lower nutrients BUT I have always had this. This is not a change.

Those cases really happened here in Brazil. Quite notorious with users of Core 7 Triton Method. After removal of excess blocks, the KH consumption dropped to acceptable levels.

I understand your point, but I have had this media in for 12 months now, why would it suddenly be an issue now?

I do have a number of frags in the back but again, i have had these for months too, the issue with dropping dKH is a few weeks old.

I have added some new algae to my refugium but thats all.
