With as many as you buy and are losing, I'd give it a try on one small tank. I used to buy quite a few mari and wild colonies and never had that range of die off under MH. I love LED but I do think it is a bit harder to keep non tank raised acros under them. Your corals and colors are amazing, just thought it might help on acclimation to tank life for some colonies.

Where you specifically buying tenuis colonies? I find this death only with tenuis... my milli and other acro non tenuis mari do great and only like 5% die off ...

A mixture but yes Tenuis also and not seeing 70%+ attrition on them. NOT getting into anti LED, I friggin love them but do believe MH make an easier transition from the Sun.

yes we have 5 shallow 40 gallons tanks. they are 48x12x12 .. i love these for the frags

i don't love them though for colonies... no specific reason i just find colonies grow better in the bigger tanks that create more random flow

A couple of tanks ago with breaks in between unfortunately. Take it for what it's worth just saying you might want to try it with the scale you have running. Colors were nowhere near what you're getting though.

May be worth a shot.. I dont know much about mh...in my experience the reason why they die off is becouse slight swings in parameters. Even a .4 alk swing can cause them to die off.. or if one does a water change and the po4 or no3 drops.. I have tried to test diffrrnt lighting on the led from low to high and even blue and low blue. Its doesn't seem to make them better or worst.

i don't import directly . we have built some good relationships with some wholesalers who cherry pick the orders from overseas. once it is in the usa we then pick from their stock. I mostly look for Tenuis. Its a very hard game because sadly enough most of the tenuis die off. If i get 100 Colonies maybe only 15 will live past the 6 months mark and only 7-10 will live past the 8 month mark. We try and hold them for 8-12 months minimum before releasing them back to the hobby as signature pieces. We only want to release the best and healthiest so to minimize the loss in a hobbiest tank.. its a game of survival of the fittest. When looking for mothers I look for the best coleratin as well as the healthiest Polyp Extension. I also try and look for unique growth patterns and shape within the coral. Its also crazy how much the coral can color up different in the tank from when it original comes in. I also have gotten some super browned out ones that have actually colored up to be the nicest ones. so its crazy its literally like a coral casino.. just never know what your going to get .. but you can do the math 100 colonies cost a lot of money LOL ( we are also paying top dollar to be 1st in line to cherry pick the best ones) so if only 7 survive that grouping out of 100 they need to pay for the whole lot... then out of the 7 that live maybe 2 or 3 are have no color.. they are just 1 color or never color up.. .this is why the end product result can get very pricey.....only a select few make it to signature release maybe 2% out of 100.. but this 2% is straight FIRE which makes it all worth the game to begin with LOL

Shane...that's an excellent write up. It makes me respect you even more for the work that you put in. I'm also grateful for all the good information that you've been willing to share in this trend, knowing most do not share. I haven't had the opportunity to purchase anything from you yet but I'm watching and waiting. Everything on your website is sold out. when do you plan on putting something up for sale?

Buy a bunch of colonies
keep them alive
color them up
QT them
invests in ALL the time and effort , and MONEY for maintenance
buy a website
invest in photography maybe

I keep the powerheads on and fully blasting when feeding. I feed hanging from a bag see previous posting on this method

This looks like TGC Acrolandia to me. However, if you don’t know the lineage then it’s just a really nice tenuis.
