The Results of the skimmer to remove po4 test results are in!!!

you were right it doesn't nothing to reduce po4 LOL

We are trying to get the po4 down on the new 360 gallon system.

Before the Test the Hanna was reading .90. So we added a skimmer to see if it would reduce the po4. We skimmed out 5 Gallons of wet skim and retested the po4 and it did nothing. Now in order to reduce the po4 we are going to do a 30% water change and then Retest.. hopefully that works.. we will be back with results soon

I wouldn’t say it did absolutely nothing, at least it prevented the PO4 from raising higher.

How many pounds of rock/media are in the system?

i have seen the best results when my no3 is between 16 and 32 and my po4 is between .04 and .08 i am not claiming to be an expert so maybe they do look better for others at lowers levels. Im just sharing what works for me

Going backward to page #3 question, what is your (P) Phosphorus ug/l readings? I experimented dosing NeoPhose to help raise my PO4 from 0 to .06 and dosing 20 ml per day for 3 weeks for my 140 gallons dominated SPS reef tank. Sent out ICP test and my Phosphorus jumped to 60 ug/l and my NO3 was .04. Triton set point for Phosphorus is 6 ug/l. Killed off some of my favorite SPS corals I had for 10 years. Some suggested on the forum to use trisodium nitrate food grade instead to raise NO3. Any comments?

Sorry, I meant using Trisodium Phosphate Anhydrous to raise Phosphates to .06 ppm.

I have about 200 pounds of rock in the system I have never used Lanthanum Chloride hopefully the massive water changes work

I just purchased the other Low range checker that goes up to 2.5PPM the hannah1713- Lets see what it comes in at over .90.. then i can monitor it going down the correct way...

Following your results with water changes and Po4. And how you do end up getting them down once you know where they are actually at.
Recently used chemipure elite. Brought it down dramatically fast from .15-.2 to .03 with the small bag placed near return pump. In about a month.
Actually had to remove it so i didn't bottom out.
Not sure how your tenuis would react to it but always an option. Works too good. Lol

Got the new Hanna checker h1713 which tests up to 2.5ppm. I finally got a dedectable reading for the 360 gallon system that had high po4. The reading is.87ppm. Now that I have real reading I can measure it going down. The goal is .30ppm I will not put coral into the system until It goes down. I'll do another 100 gallon water change to see if it lowers the po4. If that doesn't work I'll start using gfo

Hi Shane, do you spot or broadcast feed your corals or dose any aminos or other supplements other than NO3 and PO4. I saw you mix Reef Chili in with your food. Anything other than that?

I stopped doing neophos.. my system currently is keeping a po4 reading so I don't need to dose it. but the neonitro i need to dose 150ML per day to maintain around 15-25 PPM no3. If you no3 is very low you need to dose a lot until your system becomes saturated with it. then you can back off the dose to maintain the high levels.
