So true.Someone can't expect to be able to afford everything in a particular hobby. Every hobby has a upper, middle and lower level part of it. Usually it has to do with the price/availability.

I missed the second part of your post. Absolutely, I grow out much of them and keep them. Some of which I dont offer for sale, They become more of a personal collection while others I have grown for years and offer them often. When you have packs that are really cheap and you say #6 alone is worth the price of the pack, is that one stick "high end"?
Btw I love your sales and corals. Do you grow out any of those and keep em around?

I don't think it's a hype for "high end" corals. No matter what light you give a red planet, Oregon tort, or any of the "normal" corals, you will not get the color of WD or RR orange passion and etc. I know this because I have all the top classic corals like Tyree pink lemonade, ORA red planet, Battlecorals rainbow in Spain and many more. The RR, TGC, Jf and many more other "high end" brands have truly insane colors under the best water condition and lighting.
You do have to run a lot of blue light in the tank. My tank goes from 18k midday to 24k sunset/moon.
You guys have to see one of these tanks in person to truly appreciate the wide range of colors that the high end stuff can offer. But if you insist that "true color" of the corals can only be represented under 10k lighting, then that is just a matter of opinion and preference. And that's fine too. But give it a try and maybe you'll like it. Maybe you won't.![]()
I've just recently entered into the world of "higher end" Coral. High end Coral is all about color with price set by supply/demand. Asking a price doesn't set worth... its selling at that price that matters.

This reminds me of registered dogs, to people who know or care bloodlines matter about to pay 10k for a retriever , I can get one "similar" for free or for a very small price tag. If you know and/or care then it's worth more to you. I have never had any "high end" maybe I would if I was more confident they would thrive lol
Maybe so, my 15 yr old mutt had very little health problems, anyway that is what the "high end" corals remind me of.There is a little difference. Comparing aquacultured coral to aquacultured coral raised in a good environment, there is very little difference in health. Comparing purebred dog to purebred dog there are massive health differences between breeders. That is not a concern with aquacultured corals.
Exactly. That's just eco 101. No wants red planet or most of the classic corals anymore. They go for $20-50 a frag locally. Try selling a JF flame for $100 and you'll find many eager buyers. And if you are able to see this coral in person under 20k light, then you would most likely want it in your tank. Who wouldn't want a super flaming red coral with neon green/deep yellow tips? It looks surreal in person. Imagine a tank full of intense rainbow color sps... add in colonies of jawbreaker mushrooms and WWC og bounce and you'll get to see what I usually look at everyday.![]()

This is not true !! There are many hard core sps addicts like me who likes to keep all old school acros. If you ever see a colony of the old school purple monster , you will know how majestic it looks . Its all perception and personal taste that varies from people to people.
I would take a tank filled with old school staghorns anyday over bounce mushrooms or the new signature acros.
A tank of purple monster, oregon tort, sapphire millepora , green slimmer, red dragon and lemonade would equally blow anything in my eyes .
Some of us would rather pay same high price of WD for an old school beauty like purple monster mini colony .

Abhishek
