Hey there,

New to this forum. Building a new display tank, with the sump in the basement and preplumbed into the wall. Will have ~14' vertical lift and ~8 feet horizontal. Looking at likely doing a 120 gallong 4x2x2foot tank.

I have a Panworld 150PS that I have connected to my waterchanging station.
  • Max Flow: 1100 GPH
  • Max Head: 28 Ft
  • 1” Inlet(MPT)/ 1” Outlet(MPT)
  • 180 watts

What pumps would you guys recommend? What flow rates?

There seems to be two frames of thought-- low flow, or high flow....

Cheers!

John

Welcome to Reef 2 Reef, John

Are you talking about the amount of water that your going to run thru your filtration per hour?

Welcome! Sump size may be a factor in this. Also will you run anything else off of the return like reactors? I really like iwaki pumps when you have head pressure to overcome, but a little more info would be needed to size it.

You know,
I did a custom (Oceanic Systems) build in 1995.
Bought a Jap made Iwaki and it ran off and on until 2016.

You just can't beat them for externals.

Not unusual to get 20 years of continuous (as opposed to continual) service from an Iwaki. I'm over 10 on a couple of panworld as well. PW150 will deliver 500-600 against 14' of head pressure (as long as you retain sensible pipe diameters). More than enough for a 120.
