I have a very unhappy landlord that wants me to get rid of my tank. Every time he comes into my walkout basement apartment I think I am going to have to do CPR on him.
My tank is 180 gallon acrylic peninsula tank. Open top with mesh and Led lights with a 40 gallon breeder sump.
It didn't help that I had a 55 gallon tank I just threw up in my kitchen I was planning on using for a frag system.
So I had been using a dehumidifier since his last visit and his complaints about the humidity but with summer and my one small window air conditioner that was not working the heat put off by the dehumidifier made it way to hot to run it.
He recently had to come in spur of the moment and of course had a fit about the humidity and told me to get it down or get rid of the tank. While he was here he got the air working so now I have 2 humidifiers running and the air running on high 24/7. Do not want to even think about that electric bill.
So he told me in winter to have it down to 35 which I think is extreme but I have it anywhere from 35 to 45. Hard to tell the units themselves only read in 5 increments so they are always higher then the individual monitors. But they all read different levels with up to a 15 degree difference. It runs anywhere from 50 to 75 without the dehumidifiers on.
I am emptying the units 2 times a day so 8 gallons a day. I always went through quite a bit of rodi water about 2 1/2 gallons a day but it is starting to increase with the lower humidity.
So things I need to know, will putting on glass lids help a lot with evaporation. How do you cover your sump? I have an uncovered stand right now. Will covering the stand help with the evaporation and what can I cover it with cheap and easy for now that will work.
Anyone experience damage to their house or apartment due to their tank increasing the humidity? What kind of damage. The drywall in this basement apartment is cracking on all the seems, it was already cracking before I moved in but has seemed to increase this year. Also the stainless steel appliances are getting rust spots but this was also happening before the tank. The door and window to the walkout side where completely frozen on the inside with ice, I also have a doggie door which lets in a lot of cold air.
