High iodine?

To be honest every test i have ever seen or done has come back low on iodine. Which kind of makes sense since algae which alot of have in ats's or fuges eats it up. All for reef in my tank doesnt keep up with iodine and other stuff. I have to actually dose cativ8 trace. Imbthinkin somethingbyou may have added had it in there with out knowing it

It contains a highly concentrated trace element iodine. Could explain your high iodine.
It's just weird because 4 of my other trace elements were good and the others were apparently not detected. All my corals seem to be happy except for my Duncan. If something was seriously wrong, I would think my Torches or Goni's would not be happy.

I'm clueless at this point.

It's at 0.416 mg/L, normal range is 0.050-0.090. Everything seems happy except my Duncan.

So that’s high… 416 ug/L, normal would be about 60-95 (for me), but you’re not in the danger zone quite yet. Don’t worry!

If you’re dosing, hold the dosing. If not, this is a prime example of why I personally avoid multiple elements in one bottle. If just one (in this case it’s iodine) starts to drift too high out of target range, you have to stop the entire bottle which then stops everything else in that bottle that may not be getting overdosed. All it takes is one element to become a serious issue like Zinc, Copper, or Iodine to name a few.

I see this more often in young systems, or a systems that may not be consuming that well for whatever reasons. When consumption is not happening at a fast enough rate, some of the “pre-determined ratios” in that bottle start to become overdosed. This is unfortunate for the reefer, but I see it happen all the time.

You have to think of it like this. Picture two system’s.

1. This system is a 6 month old 100/G system with a few torch, hammers, and some leathers. There are also a couple anemones, and a few chalice’s. It has two Hydra 26 HD’s over it.

2. This system is 7 yrs old, has a biomass of Acropora that makes up 40-50% of the actual water volume in the tank. It has 3x Radion G5 running at 100%, 4x T5’s, and 2x ReefBrites @100% all cooking the corals.

Question: Which system will completely use up every element in that bottle, and which is more likely to be slower growing and have problems with elements trending too high?

Or did you mean full results?

I was actually asking that other guy. :-)

I am familiar with reef labs. Maybe call and ask them to re-run your sample water. If you’ve been coming up low, it’s hard to believe that AFR would get you to that level in a short amount of time. Their Iodine ratio is conservative. Do you have your analysis before this one?

This was my very first ICP.

One last question. How old is the system, and how long have you been on AFR?

I think there is a different reason as to why your Duncan isn’t happy. What’s the flow like? Lighting? It’s not the iodine.

Lighting is a Radion xr15 g6 pro. The area that it's in gets around 100 or a little over PAR. My main display pump is max setting. I have 2 Maxspect Gyres for extra flow set to LPS mode. The Duncan has been in the same spot since entering the tank and has been fully open until maybe these last 2 weeks. My Torches and Goni's and everything else are normal.

Not unusual for Duncan’s to retract for some time then pop back out.
Mine expel wastes that way from time to time.
