Good morning.

My MG seems to run at 1550 - 1600. I don't dose it all and do 10% weekly water changes. The water from my LFS tests at about 1450, last time I checked anyway. I have always gotten pretty consistent readings from them and don't test any longer.

Anyway, just wondering possible causes that makes it stay a little higher than I expect? I don't know the chemistry side of it but can there combinations of others things that affect MG or is it just a static variable that is added to and (from what I understand) slowly used up?

Mine runs that high too, always figured it ws the salt mix (I use red sea reef)

Mine stays at about 1500. Idk why like said salt mix maybe. But I haven't seen any ill effects on anything.

Yea, me either. Just curious what is causing it. I don't believe it is the salt, but will test it today.

Although it sounds like it's not in any danger zone I still want to get it down a bit so will do a few extra water changes.

Mine tested at 1660 today which makes me think it was user error as my last 2 tests were 1300. I was going to retest but then read that it wasn’t that big a deal so figured I didn’t need to retest.

Definitely error unless you dosed huge amounts.

FWIW, many folks have issues with the Red Sea mag kit
