hi all i am very confused at the moment so was hoping for some help. my tank has just reached the 3/4 year mark and i have experience some issues with cyanobacteria (it was my fault because i became caught up and started to do less water changes. so i understand why that had an outbreak) i have now been treating it (not with proper treatment though just water changes and e.g) and it is now almost fully gone with the sand almost fully with and just a few very light patches! but for some reason my nitrates just arent going down and i am wondering if that is normal because the cyanobacteria dying is creating the waste. my testings are: KH-8, Calcium-450, Nitrite- <0,01, phosphate- 0.03mg/l and nitrate being 75. but i always thought that phosphate and nitrates go up and down together, so is it possible that nitrate is going down and i just need to keep testing it because it is going down slower or do you think it is normal due to the cyanobacteria?
thank you

I'm not sure about the relationship between cyano and Nitrates I didn't think that cyano was caused by nitrates as such but more so other nutrients in the tank. How often are you doing water changes and also what percentage ? Ensure you aren't overfeeding the tank as that will add to the nitrates when it breaks down.

What are you running for filtration?
its an all in one so i all that happens is it sucks in through sponges then in the back goes through the bags of phosphate and nitrate reducer and carbon, then to the heater and then through a pump that has a filter that pushes it back out

as in the water i pour in for changes?
You asked about nitrates going upwards and you did water changes.
So is there any chance you have nitrates in your RODI which ends up in the DT through top off and water changes.

Just want to rule that out.

Or maybe I don’t understand the question

75 is a bit of a high number to me.

i am doing 10/15% weekly and then i take the back sponges out and clean them? the cyano was definitely from lack of water change from me but i have now got back into routine and im doing weekly again so i think thats why the cyano ever arrived but i just dont know why my nitrates are still so high

Any filter floss or filter socks?

I would get some filter floss in a bag (bulk) and place 2 layers cut to size on top of that black sponge. And discard every 5-7 days. That will help cut down on your nitrates.
ok thank you could you upload a screenshot of a good one or a name if possible?
