Hi all,

Please take a look at these readings.
I'm a bit puzzled. How is it possible to have no measurable phosphate while nitrate readings are high?

I ordered the marine phosphate checker.. They sent me the non marine version... Right?

Is this the HI713 phosphate checker?

Yep they sent me the HI713. I ordered the HI774. Guess that explains it
It would :) Where did you order it from? Hopefully you can return it even after opening at using. Best of luck mate :)

Nope, that is the phosphate low range checker, it works for marine AND freshwater.

I mostly feed frozen mysis and brine shrimp. And nori sheets.
Could that be the reason for the high nitrates and low phosphate?

Just did a manual test with my old red sea kit:

Nice catch, I missed the checker number also and assumed that it was the URL phosphate checker.

The nitrates are not that bad if you have chalices, shrooms, Monti's. Those corals thrive in dirty water. Depending on the corals that you are trying to grown and the amount of GHA the nitrates are not that high.

If you are growing arcos, I would suggest looking in to a low amount of carbon dosing to bring down the nitrates to the 10 ish range.

Old school here, if the tank looks good, do not mess with it. :)

The tank is now almost 8 months old and has no corals in it.
I'm starting testing because I wanted to get started with corals in it this weekend.
The first year (starting now), I'm only planning to keep LPS and softies.

There is no algae problem whatsoever. My snails and bristletooth are keeping it perfectly clean.
I change about 15% water and clean the glass every 2 weeks. That's all that is needed at the moment.

As others have said, I think you need to go get the Ultra Low Range Phos checker before making any moves.

If it makes you feel any better, I too have a regular phos checker collecting dust ‍lol :)

I would suggest leaving the system alone right now, since the system is still balancing out.

I have made so many mistakes worring about the numbers, that I have crash the system a couple of time.

100% the same

Seems every knee jerk I’ve had over the years has resulted in more harm than good
