High Nitrates above 80 need a little help!

Ok did a 90 gallon water change....all my sps had white stringy stuff coming out of them afer the change....what is this stuff stress?

did you do the water change out of the display and were the corals exposed to air? probably just slime coat... no big deal.

not exposed at all.....Looked like slime strings....water temp was the same...drained the sump and about 30 gallons out of the refugium & display!

gotcha. bet it's still just slime. did the alkalinity match? as long as temp/sg/alk match, you should be fine.

I used TMCP Salt and its close to what the tank is...

Water temp of makeup water isn't going to make much of a difference nor create stress unless there's a huge difference. Water not being mixed properly, having a different PH, or a number of other things would be far more stressful.

How long did you let the water mix?

When do a water change that large I usually let it mix a minimum of 48 hours and make sure there's plenty of surface aggitation in the mixing container.

I tend to agree with Ike. Freshly mixed salt water is said to be caustic until fully mixed which can take 24-48 hours depending on the salt used. Ive noticed my corals will get the stringy mucus is the water isnt fully mixed.
