High Nitrates Problem

Check salinity, if most corals don’t seem annoyed with nutrients then they might not be too bad. Check salinity for the sps, and ask your LFS to test if you can. Or go more precise and send out an icp test.

@vetteguy53081 have you ever seen something like this?

Maybe faulty test kit. Are any corals dead/dying ? After this I’m actually out of ideas :/

I’m really sorry man I’m out of ideas but I hope you figure out whatever the issue is

I just got 80 on one icp test, 20 on salifert two weejs later…and 40 on a hanna checker a week after that. If everything looks fine for you… try other tests +1

Hello, Ive been testing my nitrates for a few weeks now and its been reading really high, 60-80ppm. My tank is a 90g 3 years old, i do a water change every other week, i have a refugium and never had a nitrate problem until now. after water changes its still been reading high.

any ideas?
How are you testing? In many cases false reading. If true reading, some causes are:
Lack of maintenance
Filtration issue such as dirty filter socks
Skimmer issue
Over feeding
Over stocking
Detritus buldup

To Reduce:
Add bio pellet reactor
Add denitrifying bacteria at 1.5ml per 10 gals daily such as MicroBacter XLM
Do 2 gallon water changes daily for 2-3 weeks
Vacuum detritus
Carbon Dosing
Consider an algae scrubber unit- They work
