My nitrates are at 80... is this due to the die off of bacteria when starting hypo? Any quick way to lower it? Im still lowering the salt as i have a few more points to drop

Do you know, does your test kit measure nitrate, or nitrate-nitrogen? Nitrate = Nitrate-Nitrogen x 4.43

So - 80 mg/l nitrate isn't that big of an issue, at least not for fish going into hypo (where the nitrate will be diluted down by the FW anyway).

How low are you going with hypo, and what is it you are treating?

see thats what i figured but im already halfway there, i started at 1.026 on friday and now i am at 1.015.
I am just treating for ich but i think i am getting some secondary infections on a few fish

The test kit are some cheap tetra 5 in 1 strips, i dont know if its measuring nitrate-nitrogen....
