High Nitrates

I have been using FM zeolith regime for about a year now in my sps dominatant tank .. However I am battling high nitrates in my system for a few months now.. I tried stepping up on my weekly water changes but it dosent seem to be helping either.. I am afraid to do a bigger water change as it might upset the stability.
All corals are very healthy and growing well and have excellent PE but the colors are very dark..
Parameters as follows :
Alk- 6.7 dkh
Cal- 400 ppm
Mag - 1250-1300
Nitrate- approx 40 ppm
Po4- .01

Now my question is if I could safely use a carbon dosing method like NOPOx to reduce my nitrates or as there any other way you recommend . ?

I reduce nitrate by growing Chaeto in the sum. Make sure that you have a good refugium light to promote grow.
I use the Kessil H380 and love it. But there is cheaper option out there.

Hi Karan,

For reducing NO3, you can add any of these products:

• Ultra Bak
• Bacto Reef Balls

Although it is possible to add both products together, we recommend first using 1 product such as BAK for at least 4-6 weeks before adding another NO3 reduction product.

Do you have a photo of your whole tank?
Since the ZeoLight relies on the coral as a primary means of nutrient reduction (especially NO3), having less coral means less inhabitants to CONSUME the NO3. As you begin to add more and more coral, you will begin to have an increase in NO3 consumption.

Ok. I will try starting with ultra bak and see if it helps.
Will increasing the dose of CV or CB help out as well ?

My tank is pretty stuffed with sps colonies so that should not be an issue.. attached pic fyr ..

Thanks for the suggestion @kz4q66 however FM suggests not to use a refugium with micro algae in their zeolight system..

Perhaps there is room to increase RV and CB some more...but first I would need to see your current FM dosing schedules.

Can you tell me which FM products you are running, their dose amounts, and dose intervals?

Tank volume : 500 liters
Dosage : CB: 2 spoon once weekly
RV 1 capsule split in 2 once a week
CE: 4ml each twice weekly.
Ultra min s : 2ml 2 times a week.
Zeolight stones: 500 ml

Apart from this also dose acropower, red sea reef energy A and B once a week..
I used to dose bacto blend and MB7 on and off till few months back but haven't been dosing any bacteria in recent months.

That's about it..

Yes NO3PO4-X is ok too use. It takes time to reduce NO3 that high. Follow directions closely. Good Luck

You use a 380 for your refugium? Dang how big is it?

That's about it..

I suggest increasing your Coral Balance dosage to 2.5 spoons every 4 days.
This will strengthen your NO3 and PO4 reduction effect.

I would say if dosing nopox with such low phosphate and high nitrate i doubt it will work as nopox needs both and it didnt work for me

You use a 380 for your refugium? Dang how big is it?

The refugium is about 100 gals. My display tank is 220 gals
