I've been battling this for awhile I have what I would call based on other peoples high p04 test extreamly through the roof high p04. I tested .84 about a month or so ago did a large water change and brought it down to like .6 I've been running gfo and now I'm running I believe phosban not sure it's a white ball my lfs told me it would probably help more then gfo. I know he said its aluminum so not to let it tumble. However for about the past 2 weeks I have gotten my p04 to .5 but it wont drop anymore then that. I have changed media on average every 10days due to how high my levels were I figured the media locking up really quickly. I believe that my rocks are the most likely cause but wasnt sure if there was anything else I can do to try to get it to a more acceptable level. O and my nitrates are 0 based on api test and p04 was done with a hanna checker thanks for any help in advance.

The other weird thing to me is I don't even have any hair algea or anything else really growing in the tank like what people usually associate with phosphates

Sometimes other things are limiting for algae to grow like nitrate, iron, maganeze or zinc for example.

Yea I have zero nitrates based on api test kit I think when I was dosing nopox is where thing went wrong it dropped my nitrates faster then my phosphates and made everything go so unbalanced it shot my phosphates through the roof the first time I test I was over .8 phosphate

Yeah that would do it. Id suggest phosphate remover then try to maintain po4 at an acceptable number

Hard to say but is it ina bag or reactor? It supposed to work way better in a reactor. Never tried it though. Ive heard blue life po4 remover works good and quick. Only downside is it needs to be filtered and can reduce alkalinity. Its lanthanum chloride.

Another option is an algae turf scrubber or macroalgae in the sump with red leds. Thats a must. But being low on no3 it might not grow. You could dose it though.

Po4 can be removed also by fresh calcium carbonate. Not sure how effective it is though.

Another way is crushing up iron pills with a morter and pestel and dosing iron to your tank. Glenn f does this with iron, not iron pills, and his tanks spectacular. Check it out.

Yea I'm kicking my self for not buying a fully working algea scrubber for $50 not realizing I could have really used it I plan on turning my 100gall sump into a fuge just saving money till I can buy the 2 kessil h360s that a guy near me has for sale for $400
