As soon as I changed the media in my CO2 scrubber my pH increased to 8.1-8.4 range. Within a day my alk dropped from 8.3 to 7.6 dKH. I had to hand dose (in addition to my increasing my pump) to bring it back up and it is still low at 7.62.

Is the higher pH driving down my alk somehow or should I be looking for something else? This seems opposite of what I thought I understood.

TIA.

Cindy

Some have reported that higher ph kicks their coral growth into gear. Thus causing the drop. How do your corals look?

Same as before. My alk dropped in less than 36 hours, it seems pretty fast to be caused by increased consumption?

How many sps? You’d be surprised how quick it can get used up when everyone’s happy and going. Post some pics. Sounds like a good problem to have.

Thats normal, high PH drops alk faster. ive seen it happen 100 times. main goal is stability. The issue with those scrubbers is people become inconsistent with changing out the media so PH randomly drops and alk demand drops which can lead you to over dose for a bit or vice versa. find a happy spot basically.

How does high pH drop alk then?
