High phosphates after acid bath

What number does not make sense?
The high Po4 after the acid bath.

IMO (guess) either the acid soloutuon was to weak, was not rinsed well enough , some odd test error , Po4 saturation in one of the rocks , or Po4 somehow within the rock from there quarry. (Only an amtature hack geology nerd herelol )

Does not make any sense to me either! There has to be some other source... i have the same rocks in another tank that is being used as my holding tank for the fish, and i just did a phosphate test on it and it came out to 29ppb that’s with no GFO at all.... what I’m going to do is mix up some water in a 5g bucket and do a base test for phosphate then I’ll throw some of the left over dry rocks that got the acid bath and see if phosphates spike in the bucket after a couple days.

None of this makes any sense to me! All i want is to have my 180g up and running but this phosphate problem is killing my dreams with the tank lol. I don’t know if there is a way to test if it is the paint in the stand?

Good plan.

Honestly I wouldn't worry about it that much.
It's pretty easy to resolve in a number of ways. And you've already started the process.

I can show you some crazy high Po4 tanks, and evidence a lot of problems folks complain about has nothing to to do with phosphates.
Jus sayin, how did they have all those great tanks with no Po4 tests.

Yeah i know a lot of people get away with high phosphate, but whenever i have high P it usually turns into cyano and HA

I just put too many corals in to get the N/P down. :)
The fuge didn't hurt either.

See what Randy may say about it and the source possibility.

Def check out melevs phosphate Rx and how to use it. If the tank is empty imo it might be something to think about. Def quicker than the gfo.
And cheaper than a bunch of corals.

@saltyfilmfolks we have our answer!
Tested the bucket full of acid washed rocks and the vial was blue before i even put it in the Hanna checker which means it’s over 200ppb and out of range for the checker.... i think i found out where the source is for sure... lol
