Anyone else have a skimmer drastically increase output in the days just prior to a BTA splitting? I had a large BTA split 2 days ago. In the 3 days prior to the split my skimmer went nuts. Usual output about 1/4 cup of skimmate per day. In 3 days prior it increased to about 2.5 cups per day. After the split it returned to normal production.

I can't attribute the increase to anything else. Skimmer has been rock solid production wise with slight variations if I feed a little more. And large ones if the air intake get plugged but neither was case here.

Well, it could be the split was just coincidence, or it could be the result of something you may not realize went into tank whether airborne or otherwise that the nem also reacted to, hard to say for sure.
I can imagine a nem spawning could make a skimmer go nuts, but of course that would probably mean it was reproducing in that manner rather than splitting, but who can say for sure, that could have happened maybe, and that's usually at night when you might not see it happening.
Either way you've got a couple cool RBTA's now!
