High value results in ICP Test

Hi All,

Just got my ICP back and trying to see how to sort out my out of range values.

I have my silicon and silicate which are high.. My TDS is at zero so what can be done to lower them?

Also I have Zinc low and Nickel manganese high, Is this something to be concerned?

Unless you have a problematic level of diatoms, elevated silicon is not something to be concerned with.

Do you know for sure they are diatoms, and not cyanobacteria or dinos or something else? Problem diatoms will typically bring silicate down fast if there is no ongoing source, and I'm not convinced that silicon by ICP always means consumable silicate and not other silicon compounds.

So my tank is a 425 G2

I use:
Fauna Marin Carbon (Reactor)
Rawaphos (Reactor)
Fauna marin bailing kit:
Calcium 15ml
Magnesium 5ml
KH 50ml
Fauna Marin Amino acids 2ml
Nopox 6.5ml
Fauna Marin colour elements:
Red / Blue / Green 2ml

I dont seem to have any algae, the sand is a little bit brown but really of no concern

IMO, the Fauna Marin color elements product makes wild claims (such as this gem: "effectively prevents the growth of unwanted algae.") and you may be adding too much since some of your trace elements are elevated.

I wouldn't focus on the silicon too much, but silicate can be hard to eliminate from water in an RO/DI and a second DI after the first one will remove more silicate, if that is the source. Some companies sell DI especially claiming silicate removal, but how much better they are (if any) compared to a normal DI, I do not know.

If you’re really worried about uncontrollable silicates, add an anion-only DI canister to your RODI or one of the silicate “buster” DI media. Even with near 0 TDS, silicates can come through.

However, some people dose silicates for sponges etc.

Some companies sell DI especially claiming silicate removal, but how much better they are (if any) compared to a normal DI, I do not know.

They are very good to remove silicates from your source water. Highly recommend.
