I have a mixed reef and run a fair amount of flow in my 45 gallon tank with both a random flow generator on the return and an Icecap 3k Gyre. I definitely had to work on positioning my LPS in places where they don’t get blasted and they are all doing very well now!

I noticed a couple small dead spots in my tank that I can’t seem to get rid of and I’m wondering if it would be harmful to run a slightly higher random flow and night when my LPS corals are mostly closed up to help keep detritus to a minimum.

Thank you for your time and responses!

Best Regards

I usually feed at night when the LPS are most active. At least mine have their tentacles out. If you never feed at night, then it's probably fine. But I would leave it like it is in the day time. I find more pumps, even if lower flow to be the most helpful. I had 3 pp15 jebaos and a gyre 150, and I think that was the best my tank has ever looked. I turned them way down, but when one pp15 died I'm back to 3 in my 110, and regret it.
