Has anyone tried or put hinges on a 29 bio cube.I want to get one but like the 14 better becaues of the hinged top. Thanks!

i did it.

attaching them to the hood is no problem at all you just screw them on. you cant do that on the tank side though because of the glass.

What I did was I used epoxy to glue little blocks of acrylic I had to the back of the tank. this gave me a surface to screw into without having to worry about the glass.

that is all there was to it. took me about 30 min less the drying time.

i wonder why all the cubes have hinges except the 29. the only thing i could think of is due to the bigger glass and heavy hood they did not want that stress pulling on the back of the tank in case someone was carless when opening the hood

Awsome do you have some pics and a little more info.Like where you placed the acrylic pieces and exactly where you put the hinges. What kind of hinges and screws did you you.If possible very detailed pics would be awsome. And i heard that some of the first biocubes had hinges but they were breaking so oceanic just took them off all together. Thanks!Oh and how long have you had the hinges on your tank.Is there any stress on any parts of the tank or hood where you mounted the hinges?

i will get you some pics. i put the blocks right at the tip along the rim and attached to the back plastic. i used nylon hinges that i found at home depot. as for stress not at all that i have seen. keep in mind i only open the lid once a month for just a few min. but over all i cant see how it would hurt anything. they have been there since the day i brought home the tank 8 months ago.

Still waiting on the pics.I also pm'd you about the pics also.I actually have a few people that are waiting to see your pics so we all can have flip up lids on our 29 biocubes.
