Hippo tang help?!

I’ve had this hippo tang in qt for 8 days today. I’ve noticed this whitish powdery look near the back of the tail. If it was marine velvet wouldn’t it have already killed her? What could it be?

Can’t see anything in the picture. Maybe a fungal infection ? They look kinda like a white fuzz.

Agree. Cant make it out from that pic.
Velvet is deadly but that doesnt mean if your tank has it, it will wipe out fish population immediately. Sometimes infection is mild and there is chance to recovery.
Post a better pic.

Agree. Could also indicate an infection— they’re very common these days, quickly progressing, and very deadly. The last 5 months I’ve seen infections in fish at a higher rate than all 14 years I’ve been in the hobby combined...

Sorry I took a while to respond. Just got back home, I tried taking a picture while I fed.

She’s shy. In the top photo she is laying down, it’s really hard to see but it’s a kinda powdery white on her right side. The second pic is her left side, which looks normal.

Hmm I still can't see much. And by no means am I being critical, as we are all aware how hard it can be to get a clear image of a fish. Maybe someone else has better eyes lol.

It’s fine lol! She’s like impossible to get a picture of, sadly. But the powder look is between where the yellow starts on the tail and the blue. If that makes sense
