Hippo Tang laying on mp40 intake

As the title says, I have a new healthy fat baby Hippo Tang about 1.5 inch long. He occasionally lays on my mp40 intake. He's not stuck, just laying. I'm concerned he is gonna get a fin nipped. I have now put on the foam covers. My question, is this normal? No sign of illness. Other than that, he is acting like any other new fish.

I used to have 2 1.5 inch yellow belly, they always go next to the power head when the it starts to get dark.

I have seen it before, it is a easy way for them to intake more oxygen and relax while doing it. Did you QT the tang? It can also mean others things, not to scare you.

I did not quarantine, but it was at my lfs since November 1st. I watched this guy for months. He seems very healthy.

This species of tang sometimes has quirky behavior. As long as your powerhead is covered, then it should be safe.

Swimming into a powerhead can indicate velvet, but that doesn't seem to be what's going on here.

Many times fish do this for relief from parasites or irritation. Assure it has no salt grains or hazing on its body

I have a unicorn tang that regularly ‘rests’ on my MP60s .... usually the one that gets the food. As long as the fish can free itself I’d not be overly concerned.
