soo I've had my hippo for about three months now and everything has been fine no sign of ich or any sickness at that. I just recently purchased a Achilles tang (3 days ago) and today when i got home my hippo has one huge eye.. Is it possible that he has gotten sick or purhaps the hippo n Achilles got into a little brawl witch has made his eye swollen. Any info would be greatly appreciated.. Ty ty happy reefing

Unlikely that they're related that quickly unless he Achilles slashed it. Tagging humble for this he knows better than I.

Also a photo would be helpful of the eye.

Also did you treat these two fish properly with cp or copper in quarantine before adding?

I'm currently trying to take a photo of her to post. She's being camera shy.. While observing I noticed that the starry Benny nipped at her injurey. How ever they have been together in the tank for about 2 months together I thought it was strange due to the fact I've Never seen him do that before will post photo as soon as I take it I've never treated tank with copper by the way

When it's only affecting one eye, popeye is usually a secondary infection from an injury. In tanks with clean water it usually goes away on it's own.

Your hippo's eye doesn't seem as swollen as popeye frequently gets, so there is a possibility that it is a fluke attached to the eye, I can't tell from the pic. Treatment for flukes would include a freshwater dip to confirm that it is flukes, then treating the tank with prazipro, it's pretty reef safe.

Having never treated a tank with copper or CP is going to bite you hard with an Achilles. That may work for other fish but not these acanthurus tangs, especially that one. He's going to slowly lose his life as spots increase until he stops eating and dies.

Eatbreakfast is on the right track

Today it looks like the swelling went down significantly Anything I feed my fish I always let the food saturate in garlic failed to boost immune system's haven't seen any signs of ich I have been feeding more frequently recently due to the introduction to the new Achilles trying to keep everyone fat n happy

Don't do this long term. It's not a vitamin and has actually been shown to cause liver damage in fish. Instead you can go with a vitamin supplement like Vitachem or Selcon.

Has the eye cleared up as well? It's not spreading to the other eye? Do you see any flukes in the cloudy eye at all? Like this:

If its in one eye it's an infection if it's in both eyes its Popeye and you treat for Popeye with kanaplex from seachem if he's not eating stressed out and you can add it to the water column just read the directions it worked great for me I had a Saddleback clown with Popeye

Unfortunately it won't help. I've tried it a dozen times with no success and many years of experience doing this successfully with other species, and I know of dozens more that didn't fare. I truly hope I am wrong.
