My local petstore is having a Black Friday deal and they have a baby blue tang. Atm I only have a 36g bowfront but want to upgrade around tax time do you think the little 1” will be On in 36g for awhile

I never recommend buying a fish too small for a tank with “plans” to upgrade........ also, Blue tangs are readily available and cheap, so just wait.

What is the planned upgrade at tax-time? If not a 180-200+ gallon, again, I wouldn’t even plan on it for the future

Depends on who else is in the same glass box.
I have a blue and a yellow in a 65g for a year now, both were 2”, and now 3” so they grew only 1” in a year.
If your buying just cause it’s cheap, then no, if your buying cause you love the fish then maybe.

A 1" blue will be fine for a while. Of course that really depends on who else is in the 36G.

Fish list?

You WILL have to upgrade though, which is not a bad thing.

Tiny hippo tangs are quite fragile though .....

It’s a great question for sure. But hippos grow really fast. I’ll even say that I think my hippo is too big for my 180. I love the fish, but think she should be in a bigger tank. Obviously, just my opinion :)
