Is it normal for hippo tang to wedge in a hole like this when the lights go out?

Evening,

I agree with everyone he is in his night spot. All fish have a sleepy spot.

Just to be sure, have you had him a while? Have you checked your water? Have you seen him doing this for a while as a habit? Just want to be sure he is making a home and not hiding from aggression or illness or water issues. He looks healthy bit can’t hurt to be sure.

Hello, I just purchased him so this is his first night in my tank!

I’ve had my hippo for two years and he always wedges in between the rocks. I’ve also had a tomini for the same amount of time and never noticed that behavior. They just go in a cave at night. My blonde naso is the only one I see that swims around at night. Everybody else finds there cave. I have a blonde naso, hippo, tomini, 2 purples, yellow, and a magnificent fox face, as far as tangs

Keep an eye on him. Most likely just sleeping.

+1

Was he swimming during the day?

Unless they are a nocturnal predator, I think most fish like to find hidey holes at night.

Very normal. My hippo would do the same if I have my hand in the tank and would even start slapping his body against the glass like saying "dude get out of the tank..what are you doing here"?
I could even hear him doing that thing

I just wanted to say I wish my flame fin tomini tang would swim in the front of my tank. But I guess I did too good of a job with my aquascape cuz that wish just swims in and out of the rock work staying out of sight as much as possible. But he is eating all the algae on the back wall and the back of the rocks.

Do all tangs do that? Or is it just hippo tangs? Cuz im thinking of getting a tomini if I upgrade to a 75g.
My tomini has like a mini cave overlook that he wedges into and sleeps in every night. Not on his side like this blue tang, but kind of a 45 degree angle. I was really worried at first, but he does it every night, and he's perfectly fine.

Normal for fish to find sleeping spots, I have a clown that sleeps in a corner between the glass and a rock with its tail pointed straight down nose up. When I had hair algae on the substrate I found it laying on its side kind of floating in the algae like a bed. I thought it was dead and when I went to scoop it out with a net it swam away.

Very normal for hippo tangs, especially babies.
