Hippo Tang tank size

I know this discussion can create war of words but I'm weighing up whether to upgrade or not.

Realistically what's a the minimum length for a tank do you need for this tang? I'm not trying to be inhumane and I know bigger is better etc etc etc.

I don't have this fish now as my tank is too small.

Does height and width effect this fish's wellbeing as I understand they like to swim lengths etc.

Starting point size 55" X 19" X 19" (140cm X 50cm X 50cm)

350L or 92G (US) slightly under less displacement.

Would this be suitable?

Again I know bigger is more preferable but that aside. I'm looking and what I can fit in/afford etc and also get some larger fish on my bucket list.

I would recommend no smaller than a 6x2x2 180 gallon. Somewhere in the standard 180 - standard 240 range. They are one of the largest tangs that are commonly kept. They are also eccentric, and behave oddly and develop HLLE and other problems as adults, especially in smaller tanks.

Yeah, I agree a minimum of 180 gallons, with the most important thing being the 6ft in length. A lot of people would argue that even 180 is way too small, I've seen many people say 8ft tanks minimum.

Had mine in a 125 72x18x21 old blue did good only problem was white spots. Would come and go.

From what I've read around here, the general consensus is a minimum 72x2x2.

Length is definitely more important than width or depth, however they do need space to turn around, so a 2' width is recommended.

I will be keeping a Hippo in a 230 gallon which is 72x24x? I don't remember the depth.

I have a 90g with 2 pygmy Angel's ( Coral Beauty, and Eibli), and a Yellow Tang. You could definitely get away with one or two pygmies at 92 g , The Foxface might be pushing it a bit....right on the edge of tank size recommendation would think, like my YT in the 90. In saying that my YT is 16 years old, so sometimes it REALLY works out lol.

Hippo does get really big. I got my at a baby ( size of a thump nail). I upgraded from 150 to 180 and now 375 ( 96x 36 x 24H) This fish is now have to 6 to 7 inches and love to swim the length of the tank
